Catch a Sailfish in the Florida Keys!

Our location at Tavernier Creek Marina   http://mytaverniercreekmarina.com/ is  premier!

It is only a 10-15 minute boat ride from our dock to Conch Reef. Conch Reef is considered one of the top fishing spots in the world for Sailfish.

Florida Keys Sailfishing with Good Karma

The Challenge!

The Sailfish is one of the fastest fish in the sea and can be extremely challenging to catch. We are set up for live bait trolling and kitefishing for Sailfish.   A sailfish will typically kill the bait and make a turn back around to eat it.  When a sailfish strikes, the angler will put the reel into free spool, this dumps the spool of line quickly so the sailfish will not “feel the hook” or “pressure” from the line”. This is technique is called the “dropback". The "dropback" requires a 3-5 second count allowing the sailfish fish to eat the bait, then the angler engages the drag and the fight is on!

At the end of the day we will fly the upside down release flag for you from the rigger.  If you wish to keep your Sailfish "release flag" we can make that happen. Always a great day when you get to fly the Billfish release flag!

Reef and Wreck Fishing

Good Karma is a reef and wreck fishing machine!  The reef can provide some great action and some tasty fresh fish fillets for dinner.

Mutton and Grouper are some of the best eating fish in the world!

The Winter and Early Spring Provide Excellent Patch Reef Fishing!

A good option for days when we cannot travel outside the reef due to unfavorable sea conditions is to fish inside the Florida Keys Great Barrier Reef on the “Patches” aka the Patch Reefs.  The “Patches” are isolated coral heads, rubble and rock piles located in depths of 10-30ft.  Clients have the opportunity to catch several different fish species on patch reef trips, including  famous “keys scallywags” (throwback inedible fish or undersize fish) that are fun to catch on light tackle, photograph and release.  If you are looking to catch a prized Bonefish I have the spots for getting them on light tackle in the winter months on the patch reefs. The Bonefish (Grey Ghost) is highly sought after for a catch and release photo, just to say you caught one!

Below is a list of fish species that we can catch on seasonal basis along the reef. Check out our Florida Keys Fish Seasons calendar page.
